Career Changer – Retraining as an Aircraft Mechanic
How long have you been with RAS?
I have been with Rheinland Air Service since July 2023 and am currently in my second year of training.
What were the biggest challenges as a career changer?
Finding my way around the company, since it is quite large. But over time, that falls into place – you get to know more colleagues and become more familiar with everything.
What makes RAS attractive for career changers?
If you are committed and truly interested in proving yourself in aviation, you will receive strong support here – even without previous training.
How were you supported when starting and during your development?
There was a thorough and extended onboarding process. You are closely guided, and all colleagues as well as the different departments of the company are introduced. In each area, plenty of time is taken, and everything is explained in detail.
What skills or qualities should career changers bring with them?
Technical understanding, manual skills, and a conscientious and well-organized work approach.
What development opportunities are there for career changers at RAS?
For me personally, I see completing my retraining and possibly pursuing additional courses or inspector training as the next steps. For anyone interested in aviation and looking to enter this profession, RAS is an excellent opportunity to gain a foothold and to grow both personally and professionally.
