Attendees were treated to a variety of expert presentations, including:
- “What can go wrong does go wrong – failure analysis in HPA flying” was presented by Jan Brill, Editor-in-Chief of Pilot & Flugzeug magazine, and Head of Training, Airwork Operations GmbH.
- Avionics were capably covered by Till Werner, along with Fabian Kienzle from Garmin. They talked about the NXi Phase 2, GSR56 Weather, phone and SMS communications, the GWX75, Turbulence Detection and Ground Clutter Suppression, the Electronic Checklist for the MFD, and experiences with upgrades.
- Wolfgang Östreich from Foreflight shared company news, plus News from Runway Analysis and Flight Planning. This included a real example of a flight with the Mustang.
- Stefan Bednarz and Kay Kraatz talked about experiences with AeroVista – and a complete interior overhaul of a Mustang.
Other industry updates were provided by Martin Görres from Textron Aviation, and Jürgen Mies, AOPA author of the Safety Letter. The WhatsApp Fuel comparison functionality was explained by AvHopper. Dirk Reinhart, Head of NCC at LBA Braunschweig, talked about Germany’s national civil aviation authority, the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA), and its focus. He also discussed common errors and findings.
Lunch and a tour of the RAS hangars were part of the fun. RAS is the largest employer at Mönchengladbach airport with around 270 permanent employees. In addition to aircraft sales, support, and refueling, RAS is a leading European provider of aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO).
Because RAS is also the European HondaJet representative, CMIG attendees got to lunch and leisure right next to a brand new HondaJet Elite S aircraft. Warren Gould, a HondaJet Engineer and Test Pilot, reported about the daily work of a test pilot. He shared a “behind the scenes” look at the flight test and certification process.
Rheinland Air Service thanks the Citation Mustang Interest Group presenters and attendees for their participation in this year’s CMIG annual meeting.
